Dinner Review | The Salt Room Restaurant | Brighton

Sea Bass Fish Main

In between The Hilton Metropole and The Grand hotel lies The Salt Room. The restaurant is headed by the team at The Coal Shed – a steak and seafood Grill. It has been named as one of the best restaurants in the UK and being the big foodie that i am, i was very excited to try the food.

We were told to book a table prior to visiting as it’s always busy (we somehow forgot) and luckily there were some tables that were free. The lady sat us behind the glass fronted windows which gave us great sea views. This restaurant is honestly set in prime location on the sea front of Brighton.  Shame about the weather, but hey i’ve never been one to bet on the weather.

Although the menu was limited, the food catered for all taste buds. There was a selection of fruits of the sea to choose from and a few steak options from the Josper Grill. They also had a big blackboard of their ‘catch of their day’ starting from £25. The Stone Bass main from the menu caught my eye and so I ordered a fish main – Stone bass, tomato, olives, coco beans, chorizo, squid and basil. The bass was cooked to perfection – thin crispy skin with delicate moist flakes.

For dessert i had the ‘British cheeses’ cheeseboard (don’t judge me) and i pretty much demolished it. All of it. By myself. The variety of cheeses came with, truffle honey, chutney, toasted sourdough and cheddar shortbread. The cheese was served room temperature and the contrast of the sweet and salt melted in my mouth. Only thing missing was the red wine. I was on vacation with work and we all know Jenny plus alcohol does not go together and so no wine for me. My colleague Heather, however was on her 5th alcoholic drink. For dessert she ordered a ‘Supreme Digestif’ (Aylesbury Duck vodka, espresso, Mr Black coffee liquor, Demerara syrup, chocolate) in other words an Expresso Martini, because of said headache. Suprisingly the mix of caffeine and alcohol cured it would you believe.
